A recipe from my kitchen

Una receta de mi cocina


My PC friend Mary always asks for recipes.  Well, today I want to please her...

Mi amiga Mary de PC me pasa pidiendo recetas.  Bueno, pues hoy decidí complacerla...

As I had told before, I live in a tiny paradise, and it includes enjoy fresh fruit all year long.  In my backyard my family have some fruit trees.  One of them is a guava tree:

Como les he contado antes, vivo en un pequeño paraíso y eso incluye disfrutar de frutas frescas todo el año.  En el patio de mi casa tenemos algunos árboles de frutas.  Uno de ellos es de guayaba.

Indeed, this beautiful tree was "planted" by some little bird who let the seed nearby the fence... so we do share our guavas with some little animals around here:

En realidad, este hermoso árbol fue "plantado" por la semilla que algún pajarito dejó en mi cerca... así que nos toca compartir las guayabas con algunos animalitos de por aquí:

                     

Anyway, there is enough fruit for everybody...

De todas formas hay suficiente fruta para todos...

And here it is my recipe of  GUAVA JAM:

Y aquí está mi receta de JALEA DE GUAYABA:

Wash the guavas and cut them in quaters.  Put them in the Food Procesor.  I got 5 cups of guava pulp.  

Lavar las guayabas y cortarlas en cuartos.  Pasarlas por el Procesador de Alimentos.  Yo obtuve 5 tazas de pulpa.

In a pot at mid heat, put the guava pulp and add 2 cups of granulated sugar.   Add a pinch of salt.  Scoop the pulp before cooking.

En una olla a calor medio, poner la pulpa de guayaba con dos tazas de azúcar granulada.  Agregar una pizca de sal.  Pasa por un colador antes de cocinar.

Mix them all and keep eventually stiring it for an hour.  The jam is ready when the consistence is heavy.

Mezclar todo y continuar revolviendo de vez en cuando por una hora más. La jalea está lista cuando la consistencia sea espesa.

It made 5 cups of  jam.

Obtuve 5 tazas de jalea.

Enjoy it!

Not a real catastrophe...

In the past days some PC friends asked about the world wide news about the explosion of one costa rican volcano... Well, it is true. 

One volcano woke up nearby, but we already have more active volcanoes around! The news is that over these past days we had lived with ash rain. 

Our pets think we love them even more, because we have to clean their paws, brush them and give them clean water after an eruption. Same for us, our eyes and skin hurts a little. When we see the ashes cloud, we suppose not be outside, but sometimes we do not realize the ashes until it is all over us. 

Anyway, only people who lives nearby the volcanoe change their routine: no school for kids. 

Thank you for your concern and we love our volcanoes!






No es una emergencia

En días anteriores algunos amigos de PC me escribieron preguntando sobre la noticia que dio la vuelta al mundo sobre la erupción de un volcán costarricense.  Es cierto.

Un volcán cercano se despertó, pero nosotros vivimos rodeados de volcanes activos.  La novedad es que estos últimos días hemos tenido lluvia de cenizas.

Nuestras mascotas creen que las queremos más porque hay que limpiarles las patitas, cepillarlas y darles agua fresca después de cada erupción.  También nosotros debemos cuidarnos porque la ceniza arde en los ojos y en la piel.  Se supone que no debemos estar a la intemperie durante la lluvia de cenizas, pero a veces no la notamos hasta que es demasiado tarde.

En todo caso, solo la gente que vive muy cerca del volcán ha cambiado su rutina y sus hijos no tienen que asistir a la escuela.

Gracias por su preocupación... nosotros amamos nuestros volcanes!!

Today I got those gorgeous cards from a nice argentinian lady.

The first one has the sensuality and passion of the tango dancers. My grandpa always sang this famous tango: "Caminito". I felt the bandoneon sound and the rhythm in this picture, Tango is love!!

La primera tiene la sensualidad y la pasión de los bailarines de tango. Mi abuelo siempre cantaba el famoso tango: "Caminito que el tiempo ha borrado...". Sentí el sonido del bandoneón y el ritmo en esta imagen, el tango es amor !!

The second one is a place that I haven't listened before: Puerto Madero. This PC friend told me that this beautiful place, a pier once, is now a Trade Center with modern buildings, office towers and restaurantes. It has a gorgeous modern bridge called "The woman's bridge", designed by Santiago Calatrava, an Spanish architect. And if all these beauties were not enough, the old boat is now a Museum...

La otra tarjeta es un lugar del que no he escuchado antes: Puerto Madero. Esta amiga de PC me dijo que este hermoso lugar, antes un muelle, ahora es un centro de comercio con modernos edificios, torres de oficinas y restaurantes. Cuenta con un magnífico puente moderno llamado "puente de la mujer", diseñado por Santiago Calatrava, un arquitecto español. Y si todas estas bellezas no fueran suficientes, el viejo barco anclado en el puerto es ahora un museo ...

Definitely, I have to go to visit Buenos Aires, dance sing tangos, try some mate, buy books: Cortázar, Borges, Sábato, Ma. Elena Walsh, Alfonsina Storni, Quino's, Liniers', etc, etc, etc, I will buy music too: Tangos, Sui Generis, Mercedes Sosa, Fito Páez, Atahualpa Yupanqui, and I will laugh a lot with Les Luthiers.  Finally, I will look for films as Relatos Salvajes, the one that was nominated to an Oscar this year.

Definitivamente, tengo que ir a visitar Buenos Aires, a bailar cantar tangos, probar el mate, comprar libros: Cortázar, Borges, Sábato, Ma. Elena Walsh, Alfonsina Storni, los de Quino, los de Liniers, etc, etc, etc. También voy a comprar música : Tangos, Sui Generis, Mercedes Sosa, Fito Páez, Atahualpa Yupanqui, y voy a reír mucho con Les Luthiers.  Por último, voy a buscar películas como Relatos Salvajes, la que fue nominada al Oscar este año.

Anyway, Argentina is full of culture and movement... I hope I could go there sometime soon.

A veces pasan cosas, como la vida...  ustedes entienden, cuando no tenemos tiempo para hacer ninguna cosa ... Bueno, hoy quise hacer tiempo para escribir aquí.
